Environment Concept - Potion Shop
A mockup showing how this piece could work as an illustrated endpaper for a book.
This illustration was also created as part of a teaching series I had developed, focused on immersive environment design.
Set during the golden hour of a sunlit afternoon, the piece explores how warm lighting interacts with stone walls, wooden shelves, and glass windows to create a cozy, enchanting mood. I wanted the sunlight to feel like it was pouring into the room — glimmering with dust particles and casting soft shadows across the space.
The palette balances rich golden tones with cooler purple-pink colours, highlighting lavender sprigs, glowing potions, and softly bubbling cauldrons. I designed the shop to feel full of life and light, using layers of foreground, midground, and background to give the scene depth while keeping the composition welcoming and uncluttered. This was another opportunity to practice storytelling through environment and perspective, while keeping the style simpler for instructional clarity.
