Foil Hardcover & Sprayed Edges

The Dragon’s Vice—A Special Edition Book concept

The foil hardcover and sprayed edges complete The Dragon’s Vice as a special edition book, bringing the story into its final physical form. The foil design continues the central treasure theme, with ornate detailing intended to feel precious and coveted, echoing the world’s obsession with gold, wealth, and hidden riches. The sprayed edges build on this idea, referencing the hunt for treasure against a starry night sky.

Alongside the foil cover, the illustrated endpapers carry the narrative forward. The Bazaar of Bargains endpaper captures the moment a deal is struck between the young thief and a genie merchant, while the City Heist endpaper shows the plan taking shape high above the city. These moments lead into the illustrated Dust Jacket, where the thief and his dragon finally stand surrounded by treasure, bringing the story to its conclusion.

This entire project reflects how I approach special edition book design as a connected whole. Rather than treating the cover, endpapers, foil detailing, and sprayed edges as separate features, I design them to work together as one extended illustration package. Each element carries part of the story, so when the book is experienced as a complete object, the narrative unfolds visually from the first touch to the final page.
